All in the Family featured the curmudgeonly Archie Bunker. Archie was television’s most famous grouch, blunt, blustering, straightforward and untouched by the PC crowd. He was the archetype of the conservative male. Michael desprately tried to reeducate him, but he persisted in his breviloquence.

Looking back at the last 40 years, we realize: ARCHIE WAS RIGHT!

My Own Grandpa

Two men met at a bus stop and struck up a conversation. One of them kept complaining of family problems.

Finally, the other man said, "You think you have family problems? Listen to my situation. A few years ago, I met a young widow with a grown-up daughter, and we got married. Later my father married my stepdaughter. That made my stepdaughter my stepmother and my father became my stepson. Also, my wife became mother-in-law of her father-in-law.

"Then the daughter of my wife, my stepmother, had a son. This boy was my half-brother because he was my father's son, but he was also the son of my wife's daughter, which made him my wife's grandson. That made me the grandfather of my half-brother.

"This was nothing until my wife and I had a son. Now the half-sister of my son, my stepmother, is also the grandmother. This makes my father the brother-in-law of my child, whose stepsister is my father's wife. I'm my stepmother's brother-in-law, my wife is her own child's aunt, my son is my father's nephew and I'm my own grandfather!

"And you think you have family problems!"

    TO: All my blog friends.

Blogger/Google has decided that I no longer need access to my account and they have disabled my ability to sign in. This has happened before. Normally it takes a couple of hours and I am able to get back in. However this time I seem to be locked out with no recourse to get back in.

The BJW queue has jokes in it through sometime this fall. Hopefully I will get access before the queue runs out.

Bummer. And you were doing so well, having picked up the pace this year. Hope you get your access back, or we'll be relegated to waiting for occasional drips and drabs over at the BloggerDripper.

  3. Well, you were getting nice and deep into some really great and meaty religious and philosophical topics. Probably just a little to much for google, blast their atheist hides.

Keep plugging Res. Satan always loves somebody who gives up. When you get something else set up, we will be first in line to read it.

I just wanted to say on bad joke Weds, that Drudge has a link that says Putin is considering a Russian ban on US chickens. And he shows a snarky photo of Obama with the link.

I am officially banned from retrying until 8/2/14 due to too many sign in attempts. Of course if any of the actual recovery options worked it could have been accomplished the first time.

  5. Res,

Have you surfed anywhere that could have passed on somekind of malware or something else to you that might not agree with your host software? I have asked my husband in the past to avoid certain websites and Youtube subjects because they are prime targets for not only receiving bad software, but passing it on. And you don't even know you have received it until something like this abruptly happens.

Is there a human that you can call and talk to? I know it would take a lot of your patience, but it might be worth it just to find out something.

    Susan,

Blogger lets you stay connected on your home computer. I leave my settings so that anytime I'm at home I have instant access. Every so often they will log out the account. Sometimes I can get right back in. Sometimes they just lock it out. Normally I can get back in fairly quickly using the automated system. Not this time. They have been pushing for my cell phone number and I've been refusing to give it to them. I suspect this is another way of trying to get people to conform.

It's not possible to talk to a real person at blogger. Since its a free service, they have no incentive to do a good job. You get what you pay for.

Res Ipsa: "They have been pushing for my cell phone number and I've been refusing to give it to them. I suspect this is another way of trying to get people to conform."

I usually resist listing my cell number, too, though I have done so for a few select accounts. And it has worked out so far, since I have needed to do password resets and the confirmation number shows up as a text message immediately since it's all computerized (no need to go through a human, which slows the process down). And I've yet to receive spam messages from any of them, also; they really only use it for resets, as specified.

Your choice, of course, but not everything online is nefarious in nature.

I am now locked out until August 8th due to too many attempts to log into blogger. FWIW I tried to log in once using their log in tool via the link they sent me in an email. I'm increasingly wishing that I used Word Press eight years ago.

I understand WaterBoy's inclination that Google's request/demand for a cell phone number is not nefarious... but the request is there for a reason. That reason may not exhibit for a few more years, but I'm sure there is one.

Most people have no idea how insidious Google is. And they don't care.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate what Google does offer. But they have an alternate universe most people simply have no clue about.

I just didn't want a bunch of spam texts. I have the email account needed for recovery. The problem is that the link they have sent me is broken and doesn't work.
