All in the Family featured the curmudgeonly Archie Bunker. Archie was television’s most famous grouch, blunt, blustering, straightforward and untouched by the PC crowd. He was the archetype of the conservative male. Michael desprately tried to reeducate him, but he persisted in his breviloquence.

Looking back at the last 40 years, we realize: ARCHIE WAS RIGHT!

Vox made his blog purple in honor of Prince's passing.

Say what you will about the guy, I have to respect a fellow who creates HIS way, not just to please the bean counters.

If his music was so bad, why did the rest of them want to cover his stuff?

It's like all other forms of art, Susan -- it's mostly subjective and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I don't mind other people criticizing art that they don't like, since it makes it easier for me to discern whose opinions align with my own and whose I can generally ignore.

    3. When it comes to evaluating a singer/group there are lots of ways to do it. Too many people substitute "I like it" with "its good work". They simply don't know how to tell the difference between talent and entertainment. In 1984 Purple Rain wasn't entirely unique. Thriller was released in 1983 and Prince did copy some of Jackson's style and showmanship. Prince's style was less pop and more rock so it didn't seem like he was copying Michael

Considering that by 1982 we had all 9 Led Zeb albums and David Lee Roth was still in Van Halen in 1984 I don't see why anyone had time for Prince or Michael, but the girls liked their songs and wanted to dance to them, so we all went along with it. Piece of Mind and Power Slave were both released the same years as those two. How they became more popular is enough to make doves cry.

  5. True WaterBoy. Art is indeed in the eye of the beholder. But what I was getting at, is if that many fans didn't appreciate Prince and his work, why were the other artists covering his stuff? They wouldn't be doing that if there was no money in it. The corporate bean counters would not allow it.

Music and entertainment is enjoyed according to each individual, but I don't use that as my medium for deciding who I pick to hang with. Political thought weighs more heavily with me. I try and avoid outright leftists if I can possibly help it. I don't mind moderate liberal, I can find common ground usually. But outright SJW Leftist, no thanks.

    "I don't mind moderate liberal"

That's like what, a Cruz republican?
