All in the Family featured the curmudgeonly Archie Bunker. Archie was television’s most famous grouch, blunt, blustering, straightforward and untouched by the PC crowd. He was the archetype of the conservative male. Michael desprately tried to reeducate him, but he persisted in his breviloquence.

Looking back at the last 40 years, we realize: ARCHIE WAS RIGHT!

BJW -- Good Job

My sister landed a good job with an accounting firm, and after a while she got a generous raise. The day she found out about it, her husband picked her up from work, and they stopped for ice cream. As they continued home, my sister blurted out, "Isn't it hard to believe that I have a job that pays this much money?"

Just then, she went to toss the last of her ice cream cone out the window. However, the window was closed, and it smacked against the glass.

Her husband replied calmly, "Yes."

I'm going to be without my normal computer for awhile. It's the one I blog from. MS crashed and I'm waiting for my credit card company to send me transaction records from 6 years ago to prove that I paid for MS before they will look up my registration and give me my product key.

The reason my PC crashed seems to be loosely connected to MS's attempts to force Windows 10 down my throat.

Blogging will be light, but there are a few posts in the queue.

Bummer. Hopefully it won't take the CC company long to get that record to you.

I've taken to downloading all the bank statements in electronic form, then burning them off onto CD. I have a handy backlog I can instantly check if I need anything like that. Also makes prepping tax data a lot faster, with all transactions on a single spreadsheet.

Maybe just installing Windows 10 might be the easiest avenue to pursue. You know it's coming eventually, anyway (he says, still running Windows 7...).

According to the headline that won't go away on MSN homepage, Windows 10 is free until the 29th of this month, then it will cost to upgrade.
From what I have heard from lots of disgruntled people, this version is open to mischief of hackers, and it doesn't seem to get along with lots of older software programs people have been using to conduct their lives and business.

Sorry to hear about your 'puter problems Res.

From what I just read on Forbes website, Microsoft is going to a subscription service after this. Supposedly, it won't apply to consumers yet, only businesses. But you know what's coming down the road...

Looks like I'll be sticking with 7 a lot longer.

  3. Dude, dump MS and go with Ubuntu, it's a GREAT OS! I run it on my laptop and one desktop, and my kids computers. In fact, my daughter does not use an MS OS, she uses Ubuntu at home and a Chromebook at school.

To get Ubuntu, the easiest way is to burn the image onto a bootable CD or bootable thumb drive, and just boot to it and let it install. The most difficult part is getting a bootable CD.

Instructions for creating a bootable USB drive from a Windows computer:
