All in the Family featured the curmudgeonly Archie Bunker. Archie was television’s most famous grouch, blunt, blustering, straightforward and untouched by the PC crowd. He was the archetype of the conservative male. Michael desprately tried to reeducate him, but he persisted in his breviloquence.

Looking back at the last 40 years, we realize: ARCHIE WAS RIGHT!

Hunting Update

Bullwinkle is in the bag.  More details to follow.

I'll be headed to the front range (Englewood) to have the hide tanned into leather.  My plan is to come down either Thursday or Friday.  Anyone want to get together for lunch or dinner?  Drop me an email with your cell phone # and I'll call back tonight.

  1. Left Boulder in the mid 90's, otherwise I'd meet you somewhere.

Congrats on the success. Moose or Elk?

  2. Caught up on some older posts. Moose it was. I just think of Elk as the big game in CO.

  3. I can buy elk tags over the counter a moose is a difficult draw, at least in Wyoming. It's tasty stuff too. More mild than deer or elk.

Congrats Res!!! I am so happy for you and now for your family's stomachs. What are you going to do with the leather when it is done? If there is enough, I see a nice vest for you in your future.

  7. Waterboy,

I made the trip yesterday and am back home already. Traffic was horrible just getting to Englewood. I would have brought moose for dinner if things would have worked out.

    Susan,

I'm having the hide tanned. It should be ready sometime in July. My plan is to have it made into a jacket and boots if possible. My skinning skills aren't as good as they once were and I had several nicks in the hide. I'll have to see how the tanning comes out. If the skin is good and not too nicked up, there are two or three custom leather sewers in Denver who will use my leather to make a jacket for me.

    1. One of the nice things about leather is it doesn't matter really if it has a few imperfections. A good seamstress can piece that into a gorgeous custom garment that you can proudly wear for years.

Same with good boots. Boots and a vest with possibly a nice belt thrown in from scraps would leave you with lots of memories for years to come. Something to be said for a nice belt with a custom buckle.

Just glad you made it home safe.

  8. Nice. I got my goat also. Long story short: Missed a nice one, thought we found him again, snuck up and shot him, then realized it wasn't the same one. But it was fun and I will probably do it again some day.

Glad you got that freezer full.

C'est la vie. I have some primo scotch and some nice cigars that would have been exceptional after moose steaks.

    Some other time, perhaps.
