Push Polling

Push polling is the practice of putting a selection of predetermined answers in front of a person and letting them select one that fits your agenda.  This lets you create the illusion that your agenda is based on public support.  Wyoming has one Representative in the House of Representatives.  Her name is Cynthia Lummis (rhymes with DOOM US, which is appropriate).  She is a member of the Republican Party (in name only). One of her committee assignments is the House Ways and Means committee, which arguably is one of the most prestigious assignments a congressman can have.

Here is her most recent poll dealing with the second amendment crisis our country is facing.

What actions should be taken to create safer communities?

Better enforce the laws currently in place.

Ban particular categories of guns and ammunition.

Encourage gun ownership in conjunction with gun safety courses.

Implement universal background checks over private firearm sales.

Other

 There are five possible answers of those only the first, is a typical Republican answer.  The last, the "other" is there to provide a place for people who forgot to drink the cool aid to vent.  None of the answers to #5 will be tabulated or considered for implementation.  Knowing that I checked "other" and said:

Remove the Federal government from having any role in firearms regulation.  Return the issue to the states.  Repeal the gun control act of 1968 as well as all other Federal regulation on the issue.   If you must pass a new law so you can feel good about doing something, make recognition of CCW permits universal.
 

Of course my answer, if its even seen, will fall on deaf ears.  I knew that when I wrote it.  Five choices, three of which go hand in glove with Obama's gun control agenda, one of which will not be considered, and one lame cop out.  Answer number one was probably only included to look like a cop out and make the other 3 tabulated answers look more respectable.

I mentioned earlier that Lummis is on the House Ways and Means Committee.  She is extremely proud of that fact.  In that role she has pushed polled on budget issues.  She can't find a single dollar of waste in the Federal budget or a single item of spending to cut.  She whole heatedly supports every single dollar of spending Obama wants and raising every dollar of tax he requires.  Now she has decided to test the water on gun control.

In her letter asking me to participate in the poll, she went out of her way to seem pro gun.  That is of course the response you'd expect out of a Wyoming Republican.  Then her poll reveals something else altogether.  Given her history of unabashed support for Obama, I can't see how she will do the right thing by Wyoming or by the constitution.  The last time there was a women in Washington this in love with the President and his agenda, Bill Clinton was in the White house and Monica Lewinsky was under his desk.   Which is why I expect Doom Us Lummis to keep throwing us under the bus.
