All in the Family featured the curmudgeonly Archie Bunker. Archie was television’s most famous grouch, blunt, blustering, straightforward and untouched by the PC crowd. He was the archetype of the conservative male. Michael desprately tried to reeducate him, but he persisted in his breviloquence.

Looking back at the last 40 years, we realize: ARCHIE WAS RIGHT!

In the Land of My Birth

Folks like to make fun of Arkansas.  They say the people talk funny.  They claim everyone has sex with their sister.  They say that the people aren't very smart.

Of course none of that is true.

In Clarksville Arkansas they are doing something so enlightened and so revolutionary that the program should be implemented across the nation, but it won't be.

Arkansas teachers to carry 9 mm guns on campus come fall

Teachers and staff at Clarksville High School in Arkansas have undergone 53 hours of intensive weapons training in recent weeks, and they stand ready for school doors to open this fall — locked and loaded, ready to fend off the type of disaster that rocked a Connecticut community in December and left 20 children dead.
“The plan we’ve been given in the past is, ‘Well, lock your doors, turn off your lights and hope for the best,’” Superintendent David Hopkins said, in The Associated Press. But school shootings continued to take place around the nation. And in response, the district decided, he said, “That’s not a plan.”
This story almost starts to give me hope for the future of public education.  In the 70's there was a terrorist attack in an Israeli school.   They solved that problem by handing out Uzis to the teachers.  When was the last time you heard about a school shooting in Israel?  They don't have them.  Let's hope that this experiment with guns produces the same result here in the USA.

    Observations on Leftist reactions:

    1. Lack of an event at such a facility will not be seen as the presence of guns having been a deterrant; the rationalization will be that no students were planning such an event at that location in the first place.

    2. An actual shooting occurring at such a facility will "prove" that the guns were no deterrant at all, regardless of the number of casualties; the rationalization will be that the presence of guns did not deter the shooter from planning such an event at that location.

Bottom line: there will be no way this cannot be spun to favor the Leftist position, regardless of future outcomes.

  3. WB,

    You are correct.

    1. No dead kids trumps whatever the left wing pant wetters have to say.

  4. Raggededge,

I don't think that the 9mm part matters. Considering the high number of women teachers a shootable gun is more important than a big bore. Plus kids aren't interested in the ballistics studies, but they will have some street respect for teach having a "Glock".

No good can come of this.

there are something like 30K schools in the country. On average, only 1 has a mass shooting incident in a five year period. Thus, ANY effort to stop it at all is a futile and silly waste of time and money. It is statistically a near impossibility that any such teacher will ever be in a school that needs such protection.

On the other hand, it is a near certainty that a teacher will forget her purse with the gun in it and leave it someplace where a student will find it. Nothing "bad" will need to happen. Just finding it will be evidence that teachers can't be trusted with guns. Only the police should have them. (BTW, the police lose about a thousand firearms a year nationwide).

And finally, The REAL threat in schools of violence is the intentional NON-mass shootings that black and hispanic kids are doing every day in inner city schools. Teachers there are victimized by violent students every day and should be armed for their own protection. But they never will.
