All in the Family featured the curmudgeonly Archie Bunker. Archie was television’s most famous grouch, blunt, blustering, straightforward and untouched by the PC crowd. He was the archetype of the conservative male. Michael desprately tried to reeducate him, but he persisted in his breviloquence.

Looking back at the last 40 years, we realize: ARCHIE WAS RIGHT!

Much About Nothing

I like Donald Trump.

What I should say is I like the idea of Donald Trump.  I've never met the man.  I never watched any of his shows on TV.  My only experience with him is reading about him second hand.

Will he make a good president?  That's kinda a silly question.  We're going on eight years of Obama.  Before that we had Bush part two, and before that eight years of Whitehouse panty raids.  Before that we had Bush part one.  There is an entire generation alive right now that has never experienced principled leadership in the Oval Office.  Good president? Compared to what?  The bar is very low.

Back to the Donald.  I think the reason I like him is he is the only person running for office that is telling the truth about anything.  On the other hand, maybe he is just playing for the cameras.  I don't really know, and neither does anyone else.

Watching the media pounce every time they think he says something that will cause the masses to abandon him was entertaining at first.  Now its just sad.  Most recently Trump quoted a verse from the bible.  Politicians do that from time to time.  Trump was talking to an audience at Liberty University which is a nominally Christian college.  So I guess throwing in a bible verse was appropriate.

Trump quoted the verse, from memory, correctly.  This leads me to believe that he might actually have a passing familiarity with the bible, or someone writing his speeches does.  Regardless, when he quoted the verse he also cited it, again correctly.  The problem is that instead of saying "Second Corinthians" he said "Two Corinthians".

Yep that's enough to disqualify the man, at least according to the media.

I never knew that the American media was so sensitive about religious matters.  I'm glad they took the time and effort to report on this obviously important item.

This using the word "two" instead of "second" is a big deal.  I mean that sincerely.  I suspect this is going to have major implications in the presidential race.  Tomorrow Ben Carson, Mark Rubio, Rick Santorum and Ted Cruz will all start saying "two" instead of "second" and pretend that was their position all along.

  1. I wasn't old enough to vote for Carter, but I did get to vote for Reagan. In fact, the media was so convinced that it would be a neck in neck horse race right up to 8pm that I was planning an evening watching the poll returns.

I was so disappointed when Carter totally folded at 6pm WC time. The side benefit to that was, he totally smooched the pooch for the anti Prop 13 crowd in CA at the time.

That's right, the legendary Prop 13 which totally shook up the property tax system, and gave liberals a total cow. The fury Carter faced from the WC voters was just mind boggling. He screwed up so many races and issues, he did not live that stupidity down for years.

  2. Most entertaining election cycle ever...
My favorite part about him though is that he has shown how to play a good game on the press.

Say Trump doesn't wind up with the whole game neatly tucked into his pocket come November.
How do you think this is going to shake out in future elections? Honesty from a candidate is a hard thing to give up once you have had a good meal of it. Like this year.

  5. I think it is unlikely Trump gets the nomination. The GOP has done all sorts of rules changes in the last 30 years to prevent anyone the masters don't approve of. They would rather take a knee.
If he gets the nomination and wins the election I expect fullblown mutiny. Congress will suddenly find a backbone to oppose the presidency and the senate will do everything in it's power to to do as little as possible.
The various executive agencies will be in full rebellion with congress fully funding them while they openly defy the new president.

What it means for future elections? Won't much matter. The only voting will be done with feet, till it all falls down.

Res, have you had a chance to see the YT video of the woman who responded to the Megyn Kelly/NRO attempt to trash Trump again? Her response was so well done, Governor Haley should take lessons from her.

She was so livid at that show, that she sat right down and did her video. She is a good Christian woman, and she is going to vote Trump.

  7. Trump is da man! While I don't agree with is, very scant, policy positions (except immigration), he is very entertaining. Of note; when he speaks, he does not use notes or a teleprompter. So he must have a heck of a memory if someone prompted him with the verse.
