All in the Family featured the curmudgeonly Archie Bunker. Archie was television’s most famous grouch, blunt, blustering, straightforward and untouched by the PC crowd. He was the archetype of the conservative male. Michael desprately tried to reeducate him, but he persisted in his breviloquence.

Looking back at the last 40 years, we realize: ARCHIE WAS RIGHT!

Moose

Unsuccessful

Big Horn Sheep

Unsuccessful

Oh well, another year of no tags means I accumulate another years worth of preference points. I knew I didn’t have much of a chance for a Big Horn tag, but I figured I had at least a 50/50 for a bull moose. I had enough points for a 100% chance of a cow/calf moose in some areas, but I’m holding out for a bull.

I’ll be sending in my requests for limited draw elk areas. Giraffe, now that I know I’m not going moose hunting, I’ll put in for over by you in the Black Hills.

Doing Something Right

GWB, and the Milquetoast Republican Party, is on the verge of doing something right and making the tax cuts permanent. Let’s hope that they can muster the will power required to pass this piddling break in the oppression that is the American Tax Code.

Like any issue remotely resembling something on the conservative agenda, its going to be a close call on getting real tax relief passed. Apparently when the Republicans control the House of Representatives, the Senate and the Presidency, they still might not have the cajones required to enact meaningful tax reform.

I wish them good luck.

I also wish they’d quite doing things half-way and cut the size of government spending. Does anyone really believe that we can’t go back to the same real dollar spending levels of 1996? I’m not asking for 1956 levels here, just go back to what those wasteful Democrats were spending under Clinton.

Instead of being tax and spend liberals, Republicans are being tax cut and spend and spend and spend pseudo-socialists. Meaningful economic growth will only happen when we let Americans keep their hard earned cash, and cut back on the wasteful wealth distribution machine that is the Federal Budget.

Calling Out the Posse

Sheriff Joe Arpaio, of pink underwear, green baloney and tent-city-jail for county prisoners fame is the only law enforcement officer to enforce Arizona’s no smuggling law. Surprise, surprise, there’s one great cop left in an entire state, overrun with Californian immigrants (should be illegal for them to leave CA) and the Depends Crowd.

Sheriff Joe “Kick’n Criminal Butt” Arpaio is calling out the posse to stem the flow of illegals in his county.

A posse, for all you Liberal Government Handout Welfare Queen Easterners (LGHWQE) is how those of us who live in What America Used To Be Land (WAUTBL), handle law breaking without spending Federal tax dollars stolen from hardworking folks.

When the problem is to big for GWB, call out a Western posse!

Round up the illegals and ship em back to Mexico.
Go Sheriff Joe, Go Sheriff Joe!

Honduras and the Shirt on My Back

Now I'm hiding in Honduras
I'm a desperate man
Send lawyers, guns and money
The shit has hit the fan

Ok maybe it wasn’t that dramatic. In 1990 I was working in Honduras. I was with a group that was building schools, bridges and teaching kids about health and nutrition. We were up in the mountains of Olancho province.

Our little group was staying on a cattle ranch and we would go out into the surrounding countryside to work on projects for the villages. We had some native kids from university acting as translators. One of which was a beautiful young lady of 16 or 17. She had about 15 names, all of which she could rattle off in one breath. We’ll call her, HYHC, for short.

HYHC had a problem, she hated gringos repeating “como say desay” and pointing at stuff. One offender with a shaved head, particularly caught her eye/ear. Something was said about Spanish lessons. I promised to be a good student. So at night after supper I was tutored by starlight on the porch.

Two days before I was to go back to the states, I found HYHC in a hammock outside the girl’s bunkhouse. She was looking sad. I stopped to talk. She was upset that she was getting old and no one would marry her. I consoled her that she was very beautiful and that any man would want her as his wife. I might have said that if no men in Honduras wanted her, I would marry her, to keep her from being an old maid.

She laughed, I laughed and I thought all was well with HYHC. At breakfast one of the guy translators took me aside to congratulate me. HYHC, had made him take her to town to call her brother in Teguci to have him come meet her fiancée.

Knowing how badly HYHC wanted to get married he thought something was up, but he thought she was talking about one of the vanquero’s that had the hots for her. Unknown to me, he made arraignments for me to help him get supplies in La Ceiba.

I tried talking to HYHC to convince her that I was joking. She didn’t buy it. She said I made an offer of marriage and had ruined her prospects with anyone else by breaking it.

The next day I was asked to make a trip to get supplies, I said yes and hopped in the truck. My translator had grabbed my backpack and hid it under a tarp in the bed of the truck. Unfortunately he forgot to put my cloths or sleeping bag in it. We got out of dodge six hours before my brother-in-law to be made it to the ranch. I ended up buying a large number of beers at a cantina just down the street from Le Grande Hotel as well as dinner. Fortunately the Limpe was something like 20 to 1 on the dollar. From La Ceiba I made it to Rotan for a few days R&R and the euro-sunbathing Norwegians, from there to Belize and a plane back to Dallas.

That is the story of how I made it out of Honduras with literally the shirt on my back and my swim trunks.

Now as Paul Harvey would say: the rest of the story.

A few years latter my little brother was staying in Honduras for the summer. He just so happened to be living with HYHC’s cousin. My brother got to be friends with several people related to or friends with HYHC, including her brother. Apparently no one was the wiser about me and my brother being related and me being the guy who didn't marry HYHC.

Skip forward a few more years. My brother is in law school, HYHC’s brother is working for the Honduran government and he’s coming to the states on business. I’ve been married to Mrs Ipsa for 6 months or so. My brother asks if I can meet a friend of his coming in from Honduras, I say yes.

After making small talk for a few minutes HYHC’s brother informs me that HYHC is single. She fell in love for an American and no one else will do. It is at that exact moment I remembered the Spanish phrase HYHC insisted I learn first. I turned to Mrs Ipsa and said, to HYHC’s brother; “let me introduce my esposa es bonito.”

May Day Protests

I like Mexicans. I like Mexican food, beer, and tequila, although I seldom drink alcohol anymore. I like the Mexicans I’ve worked with and I like the ones I’ve spent time with when I was living in Monterrey. I like most of the people I’ve met, lived with, and worked beside throughout Central America. Senoritas with long black hair, petite curves, quick smiles and friendly ways hold a place in my heart. Remind me sometime to tell you about how I almost didn’t make it out of Honduras without getting married. It’s a funny story, now.

May 1st has been set aside by mostly illegal immigrants to protest the way the US handles its immigration policy.

I just like to say: “If you don’t like it, get the hell out! If you’re here illegally, get out anyway."

Since most of these illegal’s are from Mexico, lets take a look at how they do things at home.

Mexican Constitution:

Article 11: Protects citzens from "undesirable aliens resident in the country."

Article 16: Grants private individuals authorization to make citizen's arrests.

Article 32: "Mexicans shall have priority over foreigners under equality of circumstances for all classes of concessions and for all employment, positions, or commissions of the Government in which the status of citizenship is not indispensable."

Article 33: "Foreigners may not in any way participate in the political affairs of the country."

In Mexico they can arrest “undesirable aliens”, who determines what’s undesirable? The Mexican citizen making the arrest. In Mexico native born Mexicans get first priority in getting a job. And the big one: In Mexico if you’re a foreigner they throw your butt in jail and kick you out of the country for protesting or in any way participating in politics.

Gosh almightily, we gringos are so darn insensitive, uncaring, and restrictive on people living here illegally. It must be racism.

Maybe we should treat foreigners the same way they do in other countries, like Mexico.
