All in the Family featured the curmudgeonly Archie Bunker. Archie was television’s most famous grouch, blunt, blustering, straightforward and untouched by the PC crowd. He was the archetype of the conservative male. Michael desprately tried to reeducate him, but he persisted in his breviloquence.

Looking back at the last 40 years, we realize: ARCHIE WAS RIGHT!

Blast From the Past or Child Abuse?

"And you of tender years, can't know the fears that your elders grew by"

Or their music.

My kids are at an age where I get to be silly.  Today the silliness drove me to show them some YouTube videos of Weird Al Yankovic.  I thought he hilarious in the 80's and his parodies never get old.

The kids weren't sure about it.  My son thought the Star Wars stuff was cool.  My daughter was less than amused by "Girls Just Want to Have Lunch".  It might have had something to do with her complaining that she was hungry and I need to fix her something to eat for lunch.  I believe she said she was starving.

I thought it was funny.

Having had a son who loved Weird Al, I got to know and appreciate his music. One of my recent favorites is his parody of Lady Gaga. If you haven't seen that one yet, it is worth a look see. IIRC, I think it involved some excellent photoshop techniques too.

He has not had many turn him down for parody since he is so careful to always ask before doing the parody. There is also one with a slimmed down Drew Carrey that was pretty funny. I bet is would be fun to be a kid growing up in his house. Believe it or not, he is an architect by training before he got into his music career.

C,S&N...or was that C,S,N&Y? In any case, continue to teach them well.

I tried imparting my taste in music to my children, but they were more into the music of their own generation...until they hit their 20's, and started to appreciate more of what I used to listen to in the car with them.

But even some of the newer groups are doing classic covers and samples of 70's rock. What was old is new again...though again, my daughter prefers the Five Finger Death Punch version of Bad Company to the original.

    1. I know you tried your best.

My daughter just rolled her eyes at me today. I don't think she thought it was very funny.

Expect that expression for years Res. Once they learn that, they never let go. Sometimes boys do it too, mostly it's the daughters.

Weird Al is a bit of an acquired taste, I must admit.

My son did try it, once. He got a whop in the head for his effort.
