All in the Family featured the curmudgeonly Archie Bunker. Archie was television’s most famous grouch, blunt, blustering, straightforward and untouched by the PC crowd. He was the archetype of the conservative male. Michael desprately tried to reeducate him, but he persisted in his breviloquence.

Looking back at the last 40 years, we realize: ARCHIE WAS RIGHT!

It's Over

Sturgis is over, so only another week or so before the biker traffic finally goes back to normal.

I had a conversation with a guy who went to the rally.  He told me that the attendance was 1.4 million this year.  I guess they were expecting a big turn out because it was the 75th anniversary this year.

FWIW the population of South Dakota is 843,000.

I never would have guessed our resident grandmother, Susan was biker chick.

Now that you explain the numbers, I can see why the residents of your area are just a little stressed. I cannot even imagine the racket of 1.4 million MC's in one area, let alone a state. I bet your local/state LEO's probably don't enjoy this time of year either.

Are you referring to me or to somebody local in your area? If me, I will say that I have the soul of one who would enjoy riding, but the flesh is not into stuff like that anymore.

Speaking of grandmothering, I am not actually yet, but the nep and his wife are starting to talk about it and plan for it in their future. When I heard that I just about fainted. I would really like to be a grandma someday. I think it would be a total hoot to have all the fun but not the actual rearing.

So yeah, I guess I have the soul and mind of a biker/explorer, and the heart of a grandma.

  2. I thought you were a grandma. My apologies. Tell that boy of yours to get at it!

For the most part (two major exceptions) Wyoming cops don't like to bust tourists, its bad for business in a lot of little towns. Bikers that basically behave themselves are left to their own devices. If they get drunk and start a fight, different story. BS traffic violations are another matter.

In Wyo the sheriff is the highest law enforcement officer. Most sheriffs have a 10 mph over "officer discretion" policy. Which means on state highways and country roads they give 10mph in 65 mph zones. The rural interstates speed limit is 80 mph. You kinda have to earn a speeding ticket here.

If you are a local, or local to Wyo, different story. Then you are fair game and some departments can be petty.

Well, I am almost of an age to be a grandma, I certainly have a grandma's heart. Unfortunately, since I still have a shoulder issue to deal with after having some back problems about 6 years ago, I had to give up my Sundays on nursery detail. I really enjoyed that. But I just did not feel comfortable lifting a squirmy baby at that point.

No worries. Sometimes the mom zone is still in high gear though. FYI, it never goes away Res. To the dismay of your future teenagers and young adults, the parent zone may adjust a bit, but it never does go away. It does pop out at the most bizarre moments, like when one of your posts hits a button or two. (grin) For the record, I will be 58 this year. So the actual title is just delayed a bit.

Oh, almost forgot. I saw late last night that Sturgis had a fatality? Tony Lara, who was one of the captains on the Dangerous Catch cable show died somehow? Have they said what happened? He was at the event evidently.

  5. I think they had more than one fatality, but I haven't kept up with the goings on.
